Hair loss is one of the most common problems faced by today’s generation who lead such hectic and stressful lives. Our lifestyle and diet devoid of adequate nutrients, vitamins and minerals and full of junk food too aggravate the situation, leading to quickening of the hair loss process.
Causes of hair loss
Hormonal imbalance in men and women: in men high concentration of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in hair follicles causes hair fall. In women hormonal imbalances during pregnancy and after delivery cause hair loss.
High amount of sebum in scalp clogs pores of scalp and prevent nutrition to hair follicle.
Inadequate nutrition.
Stress, worry, lack of sleep, worry and anxiety.
Long standing diseases like typhoid, viral infections, anemia, surgery etc.
Some medicines used for gout, chemo therapy of cancer, birth control pills, antidepressants etc.
Tying hair tightly pulls the hair from follicles and cause traction alopecia.
Heredity also causes hair fall.
Dandruff of Fungal infection of scalp.
Accumulation of dirt on scalp causes blocking of pores and weakens hair roots.
Preventive Measures & Treatment for Hairloss
Intake of balanced diet i.e. Consumption of diet full of green leafy vegetables, salads, milk, fruits and sprouts should be encouraged. Increase the intake of protein in your diet through milk, buttermilk, soybean and pulses. Consumption of foods containing iron, zinc, sulfur, Vitamin C, Vitamin B Complex and essential fatty acids is also very beneficial for healthy hair.
It is advisable to use mild natural shampoos or soaps as they are devoid of harmful chemicals.
Never wash your hair with hot water as it speeds up the process of hair loss. It is better that you use cold or lukewarm water to wash your hair.
Never wash your hair more than twice a week.
Herbal drugs like Amla, Reetha, Shikakai, Bhringaraj etc could be used for external application to prevent hair loss.
Regular massage of the scalp with coconut oil or mustard oil may help to stop hair fall. Medicates oils like ‘Mahabhringraj oil’, ‘Amala oil’, and ‘Arnica oil’ are also very effective. Regular massage not only increases the blood circulation but also activates the sebaceous glands.
You should at least drink 10-12 glasses of water every day as it will flush out all the toxins present in the body.
